In Lanterns, Cait has died during child birth. Aedan and Aaryk battle with their individual grief…as well as with each other on where her final resting place will be. As is Alcyone custom for an Empress, Cait is properly dressed in her death clothes and floated on a cist down a small water path towards her final Alcyone resting place in Sennaire to be blessed by the Ancestors. As she continues her journey down the path, lanterns light up as she passes until she gets to the end.

Aedan and Aaryk are fighting even now on whether Cait’s final resting place will be on Alcyone or in the Eternal Echelon in the Ogdoad because of protocol. Trumping Aaryk’s authority, Aedan pulls rank and Cait is to be eternally placed in the Ogdoad where her lifeless body must be first presented before the Supreme Creator for purification.

But what happens next is anyone’s guess…
