L.M. Wood Cover Reveal

L.M. Wood Cover Reveal

| 06/03/2013
Take a look at the new cover for author L.M. Wood. This is for the second book in The Firstborn Series titled Dancing with the Devil.  Visit L.M.’s website or purchase the book at Amazon.

Dancing with the Devil by L.M. Wood

An odd legacy… that’s what her grandmother called it. Marilyn Ryan thought she understated the case a bit. How in the world did she wind up in the middle of this…Angels and Archangels, one at least of the fallen variety? And now she was supposed to finish some project her grandmother started with Lucifer? As in Satan? How did she end up with the prince of darkness when her grandmother spent all of her time with Michael, who was so nice and sweet and on the right side? What was you-know-who getting out of all of this anyway? Why did he care if we knew his side of the story or not? Maybe I was imagining all of this. Maybe Gram was insane. Maybe I was insane.

Maybe none of it mattered anyway – what with the world coming to an end and all.

Prologue:

“Before. I was.”

It was somehow oddly disturbing the way the two brothers started their stories with exactly the same word. “Before.” But Michael followed his opening with the words ‘We were,” whereas his brother used the singular, “I was.” The distinction told a story all its own. Even as I tried to convince myself to wait until morning to continue reading, I was already glancing back down at the pages in my lap. His words probably weren’t the last thing I wanted to take in before I went to sleep, but it was too late. I was already hooked.

“Before. I was. Before there was sound or silence, light or darkness. Before there was matter or substance, or worlds or galaxies, or heaven or earth. Before He called the others into being, I was. I am His firstborn. The one He shared the nothingness with. He created me first and named me His morning star, to rise and call light from the darkness and give illumination to all of His creation. In those days before there were days, while the others still slept within the quiet of His will, I alone was his companion. I alone walked by His side and He shared His word with me. Far off into a future as yet un-envisioned by the others, I have already seen what will be. His will cannot be thwarted. In the beginning He deemed it so and thus it will be. My place I was given by He who is and always will be. Only He knows my deepest thoughts. Only He has probed my heart. My love for him is absolute, as it should be for all. For what else is there? Only He who is the Father of all things, of all being, of all that exists and ever will exist.

But man would not have it so. Man believes himself the source. Even those of your enlightened ones who can see beyond their own insignificance believe man to be the center of His universe, the apple of His eye. You consider man alone to be worthy of His love. Your conceit would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetic. This tiny little world, this spec of miserable dust, you think this is the height of His power, the best He can do? I tell you it is the most wretched of His creations. His other children look at you, so self-assured of your place in creation and shake their heads at the arrogance of mankind. Where did man among all of His creations get the idea he was supreme among them? You asked my brother why I devote so much attention to this insignificant ball of clay. I admit I often ask myself the same question. I believe it is your arrogance that draws me back here again and again. Even I stand in awe at the colossal depths to your misconceptions, your ridiculous conviction of your preeminence in His perfect plan.

How long must the rest of us wait for the desecration of man to be cleansed from the face of creation? Yes, you’ve been given the keys to your salvation, for He is ever merciful. My brother and those who share his innocence hope you will make use of them. Not from any great affection they hold for mankind, but to spare our Father the grief of your loss. For He will grieve. Do not all loving fathers grieve at the loss of their beloved children, even when these same children have proven over and over again they are unworthy of his tears?

Temporarily unavailable for custom designs

| 05/30/2013

As stated in the banner above, I’m currently unavailable for custom design work. I do design work around my own writing schedule so when I start getting behind I don’t take on new projects. I plan to start taking custom work again in the Fall. In the meantime, please check out the pre-designed covers that I have available. I will still sell those even though I’m not doing custom designs.

UPDATE: While I appreciate the business, due to orders still being placed even though I have the notice up that I’m unavailable for custom work , I’ve had to set the inventory to “sold out” on the custom design options so that orders can’t be processed. I won’t turn away an author in need of a cover so I’ll do those covers, however, I just can’t take on any additional new custom projects right now. I’ll change the cart back to “in stock” when I’m available for custom design work. The pre-designed covers are still available for purchase. Thanks for understanding!

This is the new cover for Michael, Beloved of God by L. M. Woods. You can purchase it on Amazon or visit her website for more information.

Michael, Beloved of God by L. M. Woods

An Archangel, an old woman, a walk along the beach. Both with stories to tell, both reluctant to share them with each other. Why they were brought together in this particular moment of eternity is a mystery to both, but not to the one who sent them. For the sands of time in mankind’s hour glass were almost spent. The appointed hour of the apocalypse approached.
Neither knew. Only Him.
A story of faith and doubt, of fear and hope.
Was Michael’s fallen brother finally going to triumph after all?

“Before. We were. Before there was light, before the stars were hung, before the galaxies were fashioned and the planets set to revolving around their suns, before the oceans were mixed, before the mountains were formed, before creatures were created, before there was sound, before there was matter, before there was time, before all except the One, we were.

He formed us first to be his companions and his servants, to share his joy, and receive his light. All of his creations delight in His holy will, obey his every thought, and joyously dance to the tune He plays for them. Only man, who was formed in His holy image, dares to defy His laws. To your kind he gave generously of even the highest gifts, that none but we, the firstborn, knew.

He was surely aware of the resentment building in one of us, the first among us, the fairest, the strongest, our brother, our sun. I cannot speak of that time, and I try not to give rise to the anger in my being against those responsible for his fall. For would I not then be no different than he? Would I not share his fate in my arrogance for questioning the will of He who is above all things?

Perhaps He senses my resentment and knows of my frustration over my inability to set it aside. In His infinite mercy, He has given me this task, so I might understand, so my anger might ever be silenced, and I can return to the peace of knowing all will be well, and my brother will one day return to us. If I knew such an outcome to be a fact, I would not be troubled. For what is time to us but the count of endless dawns, the birth of new worlds and the death of ancient ones? But I know not what will come. Will my brother repent of his arrogance? Will man be my brother’s salvation or his eternal damnation? As to the fate of man, I do not presume to hazard a guess. For He is unfathomable and in time He may share his thoughts with me, I know not.

So here is the task He set for me. Here is the story of man from the point of view of one who has watched his haughty little march across the face of his little world from the moment God first called him into being. At times I find myself filled with laughter at his antics, at others I am awed by his breathtaking conceit. Always I wait, seeking some sign all will be well…”

He paused in the telling and I raised my eyes to his, both humbled by the depth of his loss and afraid of the terrible anger I sensed he kept masked deep within. In his eyes I found answers to questions I didn’t remember asking, yet I knew they were answers I desperately sought. In a single glance I learned faith was not the absence of doubt. Faith was overcoming doubt, even in the face of our rage and resentment when God’s plan failed to follow the course we believed it should. Absolute faith was not a goal to be attained, but one we were called to strive constantly for, even the greatest among us. When we convinced ourselves our faith was inviolate, it was then we were at our most vulnerable. Wasn’t that the lesson of Lucifer’s fall from grace?

I knew the awesome presence before me understood this, but still I trembled before him. My mortal half instinctively recognized he could dismiss me from the face of this little earth, as he referred to it, with but the merest slip of his mighty will. The tense silence extended between us and I looked away, not wanting to intrude on his inner struggle. His brother’s fate was on both our minds.

Choose by L. M. Wood

Each of us lives two lives simultaneously: the one we put on when we are born into this passing existence of flesh and bone, and the one that is always, forever, eternally ours. Occasionally our current incarnation might nod in acknowledgment of who we once were as if to a casual acquaintance we brush by on our way to another appointment. As long as those contacts remain but the whisper of a memory, a dream we wake up from each morning, we manage to coexist in a single body. But when our two selves collide, when our lives overlap intimately and we can no longer coexist as two separate selves, then a choice is forced upon us. We must either integrate the two or go mad, at least in the eyes of this illusory world.

In Choose, Mary Kate and Con’s story continues…

Avignon haunts them both. It was on this ancient world Con fell beneath their enemy’s assault. Mary Kate and their infant son were lost. The last Daughter of Avignon was no more. But now her former world is no longer content to wait patiently for the return of its lost queen. Their voices call to her, too many to number, their pleas always the same. “Princess, why have you abandoned us? When will you return and lift the stain of our guilt?”

She needs to remember. She has to go back. The last Daughter of Avignon is going home.

Awakening by L. M. Wood

An eternal love, an ancient enemy, an impossible choice…

Each of us lives two lives simultaneously: the one we put on when we enter this passing existence we call reality, and the one eternally ours. Throughout our lives the paths of our separate selves cross occasionally, and our current self might nod in acknowledgement to who she once was, as if to an old acquaintance she can barely recall. As long as these contacts remain but a whisper of a memory, a dream we wake up from each morning, we manage to coexist in a single body. But it is a limited existence, this separateness from our true selves, this denial we are more than the reflection our physical eyes perceive in the mirror. Sometimes though the whispers, the memories, the reminders that come to us in dreams refuse to be silenced. It is then we must choose between the simple security of clinging to the belief our lives began but a brief count of days and years ago, or awaken to the truth. We are more than this single world can hold. Our memories extend far back into a past we are barely capable of conceiving.

At times we awaken to the knowledge we left unfinished business in the wake of our previous passing. We loved then. We made friends… and enemies. It is these tasks left undone that haunt us today. It is the love we lost yet still long for who invades our dreams, and the enemy we fled but still hunts us that plays a starring role in our nightmares. During our waking hours our vigilance keeps them at bay, but at night when we sleep we let down our guard and they come to us, passing through the veil separating our current existence from our past.

This is the story of Mary Kate, a young woman, an ordinary teen, who assumes her dreams of a past lover are simply dreams, and her nightmares of an ancient enemy who still stalks her to this day are merely an unpleasant side effect of her vivid imagination. But the dreams she’s always dreamed at night won’t go away. She never out-grew them despite everyone’s promise she would. Now they’re worse than ever (or better than ever, the happy dreams anyway,of a young love, an eternal love). They’re more vivid, more seductive to her sleeping self, so real he sometimes seems to follow her back to her waking world. But there’s a price for her escalating fantasies, because when she surrenders to the joy of her dreams, other darker memories are then free to surface in their wake. He comes to her too under cover of night; her ancient enemy who she escaped last time beneath the forgetfulness of death. But he’s back too and her nightmares are intensifying along with her dreams. She can no longer find comfort in her parents’ room at night, the way she did when she was a little girl.

Her parents can’t help her now. Whatever awaits her under the cover of night and across the divide of death is between the three of them: her former self, the man she still loves, and the enemy who hates them both. Maybe her grandmother can help her. She knows about such things. But Mary Kate must first summon the courage to confide her deepest secret. Her dreams and nightmares no longer go away when she wakes up They somehow discovered a way across the barrier separating sleep from consciousness. Now they sometimes come back with her to her real world. But is the life she knows her real life and her dreams the illusion, or is it the other way around? She can no longer be certain.

When in desperation Mary Kate confides in her grandmother, she takes no comfort from grandmother’s advice she must find her own way, and come to understand her own truths. Particularly when Mary Kate has no idea where to even begin the search for her own way, let alone discover the truths hidden there. But she knows whatever secrets remain buried beneath a past she can only recall bits and pieces of, she better find them fast. Somehow she recognizes one truth with certainty. She’s running out of time.

They’re coming for her…ready or not…

Shades of Retribution by M. W. Parres

For most of us, violent retribution is something we hear about but aren’t personally affected by. It only happens to others. Or so we believe.

Sean Callahan, a 32-year-old company labor relations practitioner was about to learn otherwise. He was becoming an object of unwanted attention.

It started when he accepted a job in the heart of Dixie, placing him at odds with a renegade Teamster Union local that didn’t hesitate to use intimidation, bombing, and guns to settle differences. Sean had reason to sweat their madness.

In the meantime, trouble was brewing with his female friend, whose ex-Navy pilot husband was shot down, tortured, and killed by Viet Cong guerrillas. She was great fun in the beginning, but her shaky mental state and deteriorating stability became a threat.
These thorny developments had Sean filled with a sense of foreboding. He was caged in his own thriller, replete with mystery and suspense.

Not all was bad.

Sean’s quest to find the right woman for romance, marriage, and family was gradually coming to fruition. And she was a beauty, with a fine character, a healthy interest in sex, and deftness with a .41 S&W Magnum revolver, critically needed to fight the challenge of grisly retribution. Was her presence enough to save the day and a shared future?

Cassandra Curtis was the winner of the Premium eBook Cover for the month of April 2013. She was very available to answer emails and I was able to create a cover she loved in only three days. Here’s what she said about the finished cover.

“OMG!!!! This is the prettiest cover, the most compelling cover I’ve ever had. Wow! Thank you so much, Melissa. I dearly love it.” Cassandra Curtis

Here’s her new cover for Compulsion.

Compulsion by Cassandra Curtis

Lindsay Dannon has a dirty little secret. While she hides behind her plain and proper image at work, a wanton woman with a rich fantasy life lurks beneath the surface. The thrill of sex in public places, and the risk of exposure, is a compulsive itch she knows only one man can scratch—her boss, Jack Randolph.

The company’s “no tolerance” policy on interoffice dating is the only thing stopping her. Good thing Jack created the rules, because he’s determined to make all of Lindsay’s sexual fantasies come true…
